I continue to marvel at how powerful it was — in the context of the early co-presence explorations we did at ThoughtWorks, which I believe you experienced! — for everyone in the shared virtual space to have identical avatars, ie we all looked the same. We each had our own voices and our hand and head gestures were unique to our movements — and we found that looking the same removed visual differences as an area of focus, while also enabling us to feel present with each other in the space. It was profound.
